Checking it off the list

Our scavenger hunt list is getting smaller by the day as we find things to check off the list. Alexandra wanted people in traditional clothing, and I captured these two beautiful women at the handcrafts market in city hall this weekend.

IMG_20140510_140306_768We also can checked off a public toilet  (or WC as they’re marked). This one is next to the city flea market, but you’ll find these unassuming green cylinders around the city.

DSCN5485We can also cross off fermented shark thanks to Paul’s brave taste at Cafe Loki. It’s the small chunks marked with the Icelandic flag. And trust us when we say that is all you need.

IMG_20140518_131109_903There are things on the list that we knew we were just not going to find – like an elf wrestling a polar bear or an ice bar, but the one thing I didn’t think was likely was the request for Bjork – the singer famous for her song “Oh So Quiet” and the legendary Swan Dress she wore to the Oscars in 2001.

03fc6842-049a-4b5f-9eda-10af4bfdd80dWell, never say the Greniers aren’t up for the challenge, because (drum roll please) we got it!

IMG_20140511_114444_746Yep, we sat down at Snaps to enjoy a lovely Mother’s Day brunch and who do we see at the next table? Bjork! It took a bit of strategic placement, but here is the holy grail of our Icelandic scavenger hunt. It’s been fun fulfilling our friends’ requests, and there are a few more things still to capture, but the easiest item to find was something cool- as this blog demonstrates, Iceland is full of cool things!
